Boreal…

…is the magical musical collaboration of Tannis Slimmon, Katherine Wheatley and Angie Nussey. These three hard working singer-songwriters, each with their own longstanding, award winning careers, simply love to play music together. In the winter, Boreal shines their collective light on Canada’s coldest months with their show “Songs for the Snowy Season”. The brighter months are reserved for “Songs of Renewal”, a show that combines sun-loving, moon-watching, finger-snapping, heart-touching and deeply uplifting songs.

Dear Newmarket Folk Society, there’s only one more sleep before we swoop into the Newmarket Legion on Saturday night (May 27th) to share our spring songs with you, and we can hardly wait! Concert details are below and here’s a snippet of a song, a wee preview for you, called ‘Winterbirds’….because they’re harbingers of spring and the hope and hankering that comes with this fresh green season. We’d love to see you at the concert and sing it to you in person!Saturday, May 27, 2023 @8 p.m., doors open at 7:15 p.m Newmarket Legion, 707 Srigley St. Tickets: $30 available here: www.ticketscene.ca/events/43975 See MoreSee Less

Boreal
Ode to the concert venue #2Following up from our first post, honouring the significant role that venues play in both performer’s and audiences’ concert experience, we’re shining a light on the second wonderful venue that Boreal has the privilege of playing this coming weekend on their spring tour.On Sunday afternoon, May 21st at 2pm, we will be on stage at the beautiful Old Church Theatre outside of Trenton, ON (940 Bonisteel Road). This venerable old piece of Canadian architecture was rescued by one of Canada’s luminaries Roy Bonisteel. In 1994, he renovated and restored the historic building, which opened as a Methodist church in 1876 and was slated for demolition. It now houses The Roy Bonisteel Studio and Roy’s daughter, Lesley, and her husband have kept it running as a thriving community centre.Roy Bonisteel hosted the CBC Television program Man Alive, a magazine-style show that looked at religious issues, from 1967 to 1989. He received numerous awards over the span of his career, including two ACTRA honours, and was a recipient of the Order of Canada. We’re so looking forward to experiencing the Old Church Theatre’s history, charm and great acoustics!Hope to see you at the Old Church Theatre!…🎵Katherine Wheatley, Tannis Slimmon, and Angie Nussey 🎶 See MoreSee Less
